$10K Crypto Split vs S&P 500: Which Will Reign Supreme by 2030?
Investors who put $10,000 into a split of Bitcoin and XRP in January would have seen their funds dwindle to around $6,500 today. In contrast, the same amount invested in the S&P 500 has grown to roughly $10,900.
Looking back to August 2021, when the price of Bitcoin was $39,974 and XRP was $0.73, a $10,000 split would be worth around $15,500 today, having gained about 62% for Bitcoin and 48% for XRP. Meanwhile, an equivalent investment in the S&P 500 with dividends reinvested would be worth approximately $17,900.
However, the index only recently overtook the crypto split's value, which was higher at the start of this year due to high prices for Bitcoin and XRP. The split held a $7,400 advantage over the S&P 500 in January but has since lost ground as the index climbed while crypto fell.
The S&P 500 is expected to return around 6.5% per annum over the next decade according to Goldman Sachs, with Bank of America forecasting around 5%. This would put the value of a $10,000 investment in the index at around $12,400 and $13,200 respectively by 2030.
However, if Bitcoin and XRP were to recover to their 2025 highs, the crypto split could reach $26,600 by 2030. Even more optimistic predictions suggest a value of up to $93,000 for the split, but these outcomes depend on further growth in the cryptocurrency market.
