$13B Crypto Scam Total Linked to Overseas Operations
A recent analysis from FinCEN, the US Department of the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, has identified $12.7 billion in crypto transactions associated with overseas scam centers.
The report, released on Thursday, analyzed over 33,000 reports filed between September 2023 and December 2025 of suspected crypto scams.
The analysis revealed that digital asset investment scams pose a significant threat to Americans, according to Gene Lange, performing the duties of Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
The report found that these scams were largely perpetrated by transnational criminal organizations based in Southeast Asia.
