14-Year-Old Bitcoin Wallet Suddenly Moves $13.7M

A batch of long-dormant Bitcoin, untouched for over 14 years, has suddenly moved $13.72 million worth of coins after being inactive since 2012.

The wallet, created on August 10th, 2012, held 212 BTC, which was valued at just $2,346 at the time, a mere $11.07 per unit. The current price of Bitcoin is around $64,761 per coin, making this stash worth millions.

This move may be connected to the recent Coldcard exploit, which saw nearly 2,000 BTC stolen from hardware wallet owners using Coldcard devices and firmware. However, it's unclear whether these wallets were directly affected by the theft.

The transferred coins have been routed to a new Bech32 Bitcoin wallet, leaving behind a trail of unlinked transactions. Until they are moved again or exchanged for fiat currency, this transfer remains a mystery.
