140,000 Traders Liquidated as Bitcoin Nears $78,000 Amid Market Volatility
Over the past four days, Bitcoin's price has seen a sharp decline, nearing $78,000. As a result, over 140,000 traders have been liquidated, with total liquidations reaching $388 million. The majority of these liquidations, around 70%, were long positions.
The drop in Bitcoin's price was accompanied by broad-based losses across altcoins, including Ethereum (ETH), XRP (XRP), and Solana (SOL). These altcoins fell approximately 2% over the past day. However, some smaller tokens like UNI, ARB, WLD, and TRUMP plummeted by more than 10%.
The current market conditions are being driven by macro risk aversion and surging crude oil prices. This morning's geopolitical tensions caused Brent crude to briefly surge past $100 per barrel, leading to increased concerns over inflation and the Federal Reserve's interest rate path. As a result, investors have become more cautious, leading to reduced demand for riskier assets like cryptocurrencies.
Market liquidity is heavily concentrated in Bitcoin and major assets at present. Without sufficient buying support, altcoins are particularly vulnerable during periods of heightened market volatility. A potential rebound opportunity may emerge once Bitcoin's price stabilizes and forms a base around the $78,000 level.
