15-Year-Old Bitcoin Wallet Suddenly Springs to Life

A Bitcoin wallet that had been dormant for over 15 years has suddenly come back to life. According to Galaxy Research's blockchain monitoring, a Bitcoin address beginning with '1Emi' holding 8.54 BTC received its coins on June 13, 2011, when the price was around $14. The balance, now worth approximately $538,000, was transferred out in a single transaction on August 16.

This is not an isolated incident. Ancient Bitcoin wallets have been reactivating over the past two years, with some holding millions of dollars. In most cases, the coins have flowed towards professional trading infrastructure rather than being dumped on the open market.

The owner's identity and intentions remain unknown, as there was no public attribution associated with the awakened address. The significant gain, representing a profit of around 461,981% if the cost basis is near $14, has drawn attention from analysts and traders.
