15-Year Sentence Handed Down in Bitcoin Robbery Plot Involving Kidnapping
Adam Iza, 26, was sentenced to 180 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his involvement in an attempted Bitcoin robbery and a kidnapping that took place in August 2024. The incident occurred after six Florida men were arrested by Danbury police on August 25, 2024, who were involved in the violent carjacking of a Lamborghini Urus and the kidnapping of its occupants.
The investigation revealed that the victims were the parents of an individual who was part of the theft of hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin. In an attempt to steal some of this Bitcoin, Iza and others planned and coordinated the attempted robbery and ultimately the kidnapping.
Iza's alleged co-conspirator had an altercation with the victims' son in a Miami nightclub in July 2024 and provided funding for the crime as well as arranged transportation and lodging for the participants. Iza has been detained since September 24, 2024, after he was charged in the Central District of California with unrelated federal offenses.
Six other people were charged with offenses related to the carjacking and kidnapping, all of whom have pleaded guilty, according to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
