$2 Trillion Maritime Finance Market Gets Blockchain-Based Tokenization Platform

Share

Shipfinex, a maritime finance company, is partnering with ADI Chain to create a blockchain-based platform for tokenizing shipping assets. The $2 trillion asset class is being targeted by this new partnership.

The goal of the platform is to enable institutional investors to buy and sell tokens representing ownership in specific ships or their earnings from shipping contracts. This would allow money to move instantly without traditional bank wires, using stablecoins pegged 1-to-1 to real currencies like the UAE dirham or U.S. dollar.

Shipfinex CEO Capt. Vikas Pandey said, 'We will create a regulated digital route into this market, with every instrument tied to a real vessel, its economics and its legal structure.'

The company has earmarked around 35 vessels worth about $500 million combined as candidates for tokenization once regulatory approval and deal structures are finalized. Each ship would sit in its own separate legal entity, so if one ship runs into financial trouble, it wouldn't drag down investors in the others.
