$20B in Crypto Activity Generated by FIFA World Cup
The FIFA World Cup 2026 generated over $20 billion in onchain activity, according to a study by Chainalysis. This includes $20 billion in betting volume on blockchain-based prediction markets and another $24 million in transactions involving digital collectibles on the FIFA Collect platform.
Prediction markets drove most of this activity, with users placing $20 billion worth of bets since January 2026. Daily trading volumes reached as high as $300 million during the final match between Spain and Argentina.
The highest activity came from users in the United States, China, Canada, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. The study found that less than 1% of wallets participating in prediction markets had ties to illicit activity.
