$275 Million Loan Could Boost Ripple Prime, But Not XRP

Ripple, the company behind the XRP cryptocurrency, has borrowed $275 million to expand its prime brokerage service. The funds will be used for the operation and growth of Ripple Prime.

The loan was raised in an upsized $275 million private placement of senior unsecured notes on August 18th. This move does not directly impact the price of XRP, but it could have a weak effect on its value if Ripple's prime brokerage service is successful.

Ripple completed the purchase of Hidden Road, now known as Ripple Prime, for $1.25 billion in October 2025, and has seen revenue triple year-over-year since then. However, XRP's price did not benefit from this news, as its holders have no real exposure to the deal or the brokerage's growth.

XRP is designed to incur virtually no transaction fees when coins are moved or held, making it more appealing as a financial tool but less appealing as an investment. Unless XRP's protocol is adjusted to favor its holders rather than its users, there isn't much reason for its price to benefit from Ripple's actions.
