$285M Drift Hack Wallet Moves Millions Through Tornado Cash
The wallet linked to the $285 million Drift Protocol exploit has moved approximately $44.4 million in ETH to Tornado Cash, marking the first significant transfer of stolen funds in three months.
Blockchain security firm PeckShield flagged the transactions, identifying 23,095.1 ETH sent to the privacy mixer Tornado Cash along with a separate 0.85 ETH transfer to Bybit.
The wallet is identified on Etherscan as 'Drift Exploiter 4' at address 0xbDdAE987FEe930910fCC5aa403D5688fB440561B, which belongs to Arkham Intelligence's 'Drift Protocol Exploiter' cluster.
Social engineering enabled the $285M theft, with investigators determining that the attackers spent approximately six months posing as representatives of a quantitative trading firm before compromising developer devices and obtaining pre-signed approvals from two of Drift's five Security Council members.
