$286M Crypto Exploit Fallout Creates Winners and Losers Among NES Holders
Crypto exchange recovery rules have caused controversy among NES holders after a $286M exploit on August 24. The incident led to venue-specific interruptions, and exchanges are implementing different recovery plans.
Binance Alpha is using two snapshots to separate eligible 1:1 swaps from refunds. Users who held NES before the cutoff must also have had an eligible portion when trading was suspended to receive the swap. Additional NES acquired after the cutoff will be subject to a separate refund treatment, but details on the formula are not disclosed.
Kraken has announced that NES would migrate 1:1 to a new Ethereum contract, while $BNB-chain funding would remain disabled. The exchange's incident page said that customers moving NES should select Ethereum and verify the new contract details before transferring funds.
