A massive cryptocurrency heist occurred on September 8, 2026, at the Liquid Network, a settlement exchange used by several exchanges. The hacker stole approximately $340 million in bitcoins from the network's wallet.

Liquid Network, launched in 2018 by Blockstream, paused operations until the incident is resolved. A 'white hat' hacker allegedly exploited a bug to withdraw the funds.

Blockstream executive Samson Mow reported that the company fixed the bug and around 3,400 of the roughly 4,000 stolen bitcoins were returned, with about $47 million remaining under the hacker's control.
