$38 Million Funding Boost for Japan's First Onshore Stablecoin
JPYC stablecoin issuer AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings has announced an extension of its Series B funding round, bringing the total amount raised to $38 million. The third funding tranche adds Yen 6 billion ($38m) to the previous two closings, which raised Yen 1.78 billion ($11m) in February and Yen 5 billion ($32m) in May.
The JPYC stablecoin was originally launched as a prepaid money token under Japan's prepaid debit card legislation but transitioned to a fully-fledged onshore stablecoin in October 2025. It is now used by Amazon partner AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings for payments to its drivers and contractors.
The JPYC stablecoin has also formed partnerships with various companies, including LINE's Unifi web3/stablecoin app, and has targeted both web3 and real-world use cases. However, compared to dollar stablecoins, the issuance of JPYC remains modest.
