$40 Trillion Debt Milestone Fuels Cryptocurrency Demand
The US public debt has surpassed $40 trillion, a milestone that may weaken confidence in fiat currencies and boost interest in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum, and Zcash as alternative stores of value.
According to Grayscale, the Treasury's expanded long-term bond buybacks aim to ease market pressure but do not address structural deficits driving debt growth. Persistent federal deficits and rising debt-to-GDP ratios suggest continued borrowing, reinforcing the appeal of these digital assets amid fiscal uncertainty.
Grayscale sees these factors supporting long-term adoption of Bitcoin and related cryptos. The company's views are reflected in recent price movements, with Bitcoin recently hitting a new high of $77,588 before dropping 2.5% following Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish keynote at the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium.
