$400M Investment Saves Situational Awareness from Financial Ruin
Situational Awareness, the hedge fund founded by Leopold Aschenbrenner, has managed to recover from its recent financial struggles with a $400 million investment in an undisclosed company. This move comes just days after the fund nearly collapsed due to margin calls triggered by July's AI stock crash.
The fund had seen its assets fall by about 78% in July, forcing it to seek fresh capital and consider selling stakes in private companies. Situational Awareness subsequently sold most of its public equity portfolio to Ken Griffin's Citadel, allowing it to repay lenders and retain its private holdings.
The latest investment is the second significant investment in this company by Situational Awareness, with an initial $100 million invested in July. The hedge fund had heavily invested in power and data centers supporting AI, including Bitcoin miners expanding into AI computing.
