40x Short Bet on Dogecoin Raises Bear Trap Fears
Aggressive bets are stacking up on Dogecoin (DOGE) as it approaches key support zones. A recent trade saw a massive 40x short opened on DOGE, with an entry price at $0.071 and liquidation around $0.07, yielding over 40% in profit. This adds pressure to the $0.07 support zone that DOGE has been holding for nearly two months.
DOGE's previous monthly cycles show a similar setup. In June, it spent four months consolidating around the $0.08 level before breaking down and triggering massive long squeezes. The question now is whether Dogecoin will repeat this pattern heading into Q3.
The DOGE/BTC ratio shows little sign of rotation back into the memecoin, and rising short leverage on DOGE looks strategic with the $0.07 support under pressure. However, bulls still dominate, with a 24-hour Long/Short Ratio at a multi-month high of 1.18.
Despite its weak technical setup, the broader memecoin market is picking up, with trading volume up 22% over the past 24 hours and capital flowing more heavily into memecoins. Dogecoin dominance (DOGE.D) has slipped below the 0.5% mark, falling back to levels last seen during the 2020-21 cycle.
If these trends hold, the setup could quickly turn into a bear trap, making that 40x DOGE short a high-risk bet. A short squeeze could send DOGE toward $0.075 once the broader market shifts back into risk-on mode.
