$4.7 Billion Down: Trump's Crypto Ventures Leave Investors Reeling
Donald Trump's crypto ventures have left investors at least $4.7 billion underwater, according to an analysis by Public Citizen. The report looked at data from five products: the TRUMP meme coin, World Liberty Financial's WLFI governance token, Trump-branded NFT trading cards, the USD1 stablecoin, and the digital-asset treasury of Trump Media and Technology Group.
The $TRUMP meme coin was a major contributor to investor losses, accounting for $3.2 billion of the total. It peaked at $73.43 two days before Trump's inauguration but has since plummeted to $2.70, down 96.5% from its peak.
Public Citizen's analysis also found that WLFI's governance token lost 87% of its value since peaking in September last year, leaving investors roughly $1 billion underwater. In contrast, the USD1 stablecoin has maintained a steady value and generated $199.2 million for Trump without any investor losses.
The report highlights the disparity between Trump's crypto earnings and investor losses. According to his 2025 financial disclosure, he earned at least $1.4 billion from these products, mostly from token sales and licensing fees.
