$50 Billion Valuation Fails to Secure XRP's Uncertain Future

Ripple, a fintech company founded in 2012, has reached a valuation of $50 billion after an employee share buyback in March 2026. This surpasses Coinbase's market capitalization at the time and highlights Ripple's growth. However, despite its success, the outlook for XRP, the native token of the XRPL, remains unclear.

Ripple provides valuable products for financial institutions, including the Ripple payments network, which uses the XRP Ledger to complete cross-border payments in 3 to 5 seconds with fees under $0.01. However, banks can use the Ripple payments network without using XRP, and only a few have confirmed its usage.

XRP's role is not limited to the Ripple payments network; it also provides a platform for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. However, in both areas, the XRPL lags behind other blockchains, with less than $50 million in total value locked in DeFi protocols.
