$50M AAVE Trade Turns into Minimal Token Return Due to High Slippage
A high-profile trading disaster has unfolded on the Aave platform, where a user attempting to purchase $50 million worth of AAVE tokens via USDT suffered an enormous loss.
The transaction was executed through the Aave interface and routed via CoW DAO, triggering warnings due to the unusually large order size. Despite these alerts, the trader proceeded with the trade on their mobile device, confirming the high slippage conditions.
Aave's founder, Stani Kulechov, explained that the trading interface displayed clear warnings about the extreme price impact and required explicit user confirmation before proceeding. The platform noted that such events can occur in decentralized finance, although transactions of this magnitude are rare.
The unusually large order size resulted in significant slippage, leaving the user with only 324 AAVE tokens despite committing tens of millions of dollars in stablecoins. To mitigate some of the impact, Aave plans to refund approximately $600,000 in fees generated by the trade while attempting to contact the affected user.
