$550K Lost in Google Ad Scam Targeting Crypto Traders
A crypto trader lost approximately $550,000 in USDC after falling victim to a Google ad scam. The scammers created a fake advertisement impersonating Hyperliquid, a decentralized futures exchange, and used it to redirect users to a phishing site that closely resembled the legitimate platform.
The attackers exploited user trust in Google search results rather than any technical flaw in Hyperliquid's systems. The phishing site was designed to steal wallet approvals and seed phrases from unsuspecting traders.
Fortunately, Google has suspended the fraudulent advertiser, and traders are advised to be cautious when clicking on sponsored ads. To avoid such scams, it is recommended to verify URLs and use hardware wallets for added security.
