$560K in Cryptocurrency Seized from Hamas, Online Recruitment Network Disrupted
US Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced that her office has seized over $560,000 in cryptocurrency meant for Hamas, disrupting their online recruitment network. The investigation revealed an encrypted group chat affiliated with Hamas that directed supporters to a fundraising website and changing cryptocurrency donation addresses.
Pirro stated, 'My office just struck a massive blow against foreign terrorism in seizing over $560,000 in crypto and dismantling Hamas' online recruitment by seizing their servers and their domains.'
The investigation identified thousands of individuals who tried to donate to Hamas, with the identities now available for counterterrorism efforts. The FBI used human sources to identify domains and servers used by the group, intercepting cryptocurrency donations.
