$5K Stimulus Checks Depend on Midterm Election Results, Trump Proposes
President Donald Trump has made another promise to American adults, this time offering $5,000 each if Republicans keep the House and Senate after the November midterms. Speaking at a GOP gathering in Dallas, Trump described the proposal as 'the Trump Dividend,' comparing it to cash companies return to shareholders. However, some have questioned how the government would fund such an endeavor, with the total cost potentially exceeding $1 trillion.
The idea is not new for Trump, who earlier this year discussed a $2,000 dividend and mentioned that he might be able to issue it without congressional approval. Last year, he sent service members $1,776 apiece, calling the payment 'a warrior dividend.'
However, concerns have been raised about how Republicans would fund such a large expense. The government is already spending more than it collects on an annual basis, and inflation concerns are weighing on consumers and markets.
