The US Department of Justice is pursuing forfeiture of $61 million in cryptocurrency allegedly linked to Iranian black-market oil sales. Prosecutors claim that two Chinese companies, Blessed Trust Limited and Hexa Whale Trading Limited, used Binance accounts to convert payments for Iranian petroleum into cryptocurrency.

According to the complaint, these companies provided fiat-to-crypto conversion services for oil transactions involving Chinese buyers, connecting Binance trading accounts with cryptocurrency issuers and other financial channels. The investigation also reveals that tens of millions of dollars were sent or received through the US financial system.

The targeted assets include Tether's USDT, which will be replaced by issuing matching replacements to a government-controlled wallet. This recovery mechanism highlights concerns about stablecoin controls and wallet tracing.
