$6B Debt Conversion Strategy Unveiled by Strategy News Amid Ongoing Market Volatility
Strategy News, the Bitcoin treasury company, plans to convert its $6 billion convertible debt into equity over three to six years. The move would turn bondholders into shareholders rather than requiring cash repayment, reducing pressure on Strategy's balance sheet.
The company currently holds $49 billion in Bitcoin reserves with 714,644 BTC at an average purchase price of around $76,000. The asset trades at $68,400, putting the firm down approximately 10% on its investment.
Strategy can withstand a cryptocurrency drawdown to $8,000 and still maintain sufficient assets to fully cover debt obligations, according to founder Michael Saylor. He signaled another Bitcoin purchase by posting the company's accumulation chart, marking 12 consecutive weeks of buying despite sharp declines in both Bitcoin price and stock value.
The move would strengthen Strategy's balance sheet while converting creditors into equity stakeholders. However, it may dilute existing shareholders as new stock is issued instead of repaying bonds in cash.
