71.9% of Former Top-100 Cryptocurrencies Now Defunct, Analysts Warn

Share

A recent analysis from CryptoRank reveals that nearly three-quarters of cryptocurrencies that once reached the top 100 by market capitalization are now considered defunct.

The study examined 1,539 digital assets that had previously achieved top-100 status and found that a cryptocurrency is effectively defunct if it has posted daily trading volume below $10,000 for 90 consecutive days and has been delisted from major exchanges.

CryptoRank projects that 62% of current top-100 cryptocurrencies could cease operating within five years, and 84.7% within ten years, with an average lifespan across all analyzed cryptocurrencies estimated at approximately two years and four months.
