$74 Million Tectonic Exploit Triggers Cronos Network Halt
Cronos Network was temporarily halted on August 31, 2026, after an active exploit on lending protocol Tectonic drained roughly $74 million. The attack managed to bridge only about $6 million to Ethereum before the chain was paused, leaving an estimated $60 million stuck and unrecoverable by the attacker.
The Cronos team restored the chain's state to its pre-attack point and resumed normal block production at 23:49 UTC from block 90,896,189. Node operators are now recommended to upgrade to v1.7.8 using the 09:52 UTC snapshot while the network remains under close observation.
The company assured users that their funds are safe, with Crypto.com co-founder Kris confirming that the Crypto.com app and exchange were unaffected throughout the incident.
