$7.4M Drained from Ethereum Cross-Chain Bridge of Verus Protocol via Notarization Mismatch
A security firm has reported that an attacker exploited the Ethereum cross-chain bridge of Verus Protocol, draining roughly $7.44 million in assets.
The attack occurred on July 23, 2026, and targeted various assets including ETH, tBTC, stablecoins, and MKR.
CertiK noted that the exploit was caused by a notarization mismatch, which is a fundamental difference in how transactions are verified between chains.
