Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies rely on various consensus mechanisms to validate transactions and add new blocks to their ledgers. Eight of the most popular crypto networks use different approaches, each with its strengths and weaknesses.

The Bitcoin network uses a Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, which requires miners to solve complex mathematical equations to validate transactions and create new blocks. This approach is energy-intensive but secure.

Solana, on the other hand, employs a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, which allows validators to verify transactions based on their stake in the network. This method is more energy-efficient than PoW but has its own set of challenges.
