$86M in Crypto Futures Liquidated: Bitcoin Shorts Dominate
The cryptocurrency market has seen significant liquidations in the past 24 hours, with approximately $86 million in total liquidated across major exchanges. The majority of this activity was concentrated in Bitcoin (BTC) futures, where $59.12 million in positions were forcibly closed.
Of these BTC liquidations, a staggering 93.53% were short positions. Ethereum (ETH) also saw significant liquidations, with $12.05 million worth of positions closed, 66.72% of which were shorts. In contrast, the lesser-known asset SNDK experienced $15.31 million in liquidations, but the majority of these were long positions.
The concentration of short liquidations in BTC and ETH suggests a sudden price increase or short squeeze during the reporting period. This is a key indicator of market sentiment and leverage levels, with high volumes of short liquidations often signaling that traders were overly bearish and forced to capitulate.
