$9,200 Stolen in Grand Traverse County Scam Involving Bitcoin
A Grand Traverse County man has fallen victim to a suspected scam, losing more than $9,200. The 64-year-old claimed he received a text message from Apple stating there was an unauthorized charge on his account.
He called the number provided and spoke with someone claiming to be from Huntington Bank's fraud department.
The imposter told him that his account had been compromised and instructed him to withdraw $9,200 and convert it to Bitcoin. The victim believed he would receive a refund and followed the instructions.
However, no reimbursement was made, and the man has since contacted authorities to report the incident.
