A16z Crypto Upgrades zkVM for Quantum-Resistant Proofs
A16z crypto has released an overhauled version of its open-source zkVM called Lattice Jolt, which replaces elliptic-curve cryptography with a lattice-based architecture that is more resistant to attacks from quantum computers.
The new system, Lattice Jolt, uses a polynomial commitment scheme called Akita, developed collaboratively by LayerZero, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Southern California. Akita supports a transparent setup that eliminates the need for a trusted ceremony.
Lattice Jolt achieves up to 2 million RV64IMAC cycles per second running on CPU alone, no GPU required, and proof sizes are significantly smaller than hash-based post-quantum systems at 65 to 80 KB.
