Aave Deprecates Low-Activity Reserves, Shuts Down Six Blockchain Deployments
Aave, a leading decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol, is deprecating dozens of low-activity asset reserves and shutting down six blockchain deployments. According to Stani Kulechov, Aave's founder, this move aims to reduce the lending protocol's economic and technical risk.
The affected assets have either remained below Aave's required usage thresholds or experienced substantial declines in deposits. The six complete market closures are on Sonic, Scroll, zkSync, Metis, Soneium, and Aptos, covering 25 reserves.
Aave plans to wind down the affected reserves gradually, freezing each reserve and reducing its supply and borrowing caps to one. For the six complete market closures, reserves with outstanding debt will have their reserve factor increased to 99%, while the base borrowing rate will be set at 5%.
