Aave Exits Six Blockchains Amid Low Revenue
Aave, a major decentralized lending protocol, announced plans to shut down operations on six blockchain networks due to low usage and revenue. The affected blockchains include Sonic, Scroll, zkSync, Metis, Soneium, and Aptos. These chains generate less than $5,000 in quarterly revenue each.
The decision aims to reduce economic and technical risks by focusing on more active markets. Aave will gradually wind down the affected reserves, freezing new deposits and encouraging users to exit positions before fully discontinuing the markets. This move impacts about $98.1 million in supplied assets and $15.6 million in outstanding debt.
Aave's risk service provider, LlamaRisk, conducted a review highlighting that these markets and reserves have low usage and generate insufficient revenue to justify maintenance costs.
