Aave Expands DeFi Lending Capabilities with Circle Partnership
Aave is expanding its presence in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space by bringing its credit system to Circle's Layer-1 blockchain, also known as the Aave Chain. This move comes after Aave Labs partnered with Circle Internet Group and the Aave DAO to deploy Aave lending markets on the new blockchain.
Aave's credit system is a key component of DeFi lending, allowing users to borrow funds that are secured by collateral. The partnership between Aave and Circle aims to bring this functionality to Circle's Layer-1 blockchain, which is built for stablecoin payments, FX, and capital markets use. USDC, the native gas token of the Aave Chain, will be used for settlement.
According to DeFiLlama, Aave has over $35 billion in total value locked across 13 mainnet chains, making it a leader in decentralized lending. The deployment on Circle's Layer-1 blockchain is expected to bring new opportunities for developers and institutional investors alike. However, challenges lie ahead as the Aave DAO will need to oversee the deployment under risk management oversight, with assessments by Chaos Labs and Gauntlet, oracle selection done by Chainlink, and initial market set-up.
