Aave Governance Token AAVE: Understanding Its Role in DeFi
The Aave protocol is a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform that allows users to provide crypto assets as collateral and borrow against them. The governance token of this protocol is AAVE, which is used for decision-making within the ecosystem.
Unlike depositing USDC into Aave or borrowing from it, buying AAVE tokens creates different balances, rights, and risks. Interest rates in the protocol can change based on utilization and liquidity conditions, affecting the value of a user's claim to their deposited assets.
AAVE holders can participate in protocol decisions through voting and delegation methods, which cover issues such as adding new assets, risk parameters, and treasury usage. However, holding AAVE does not automatically include users in the Umbrella security module or staking program, which involves contributing to covering deficits in specific assets and networks.
The liquidation risk for borrowers depends on the value of their collateral and debt assets, and a decrease in collateral value can lead to liquidation. Users should be aware that reducing debt or adding collateral requires separate on-chain transactions, and network congestion and fee balance can affect timely intervention.
