Abraxas Capital Boosts Spot Holdings to Hedge $353M Ethereum Short
Ethereum's price has been stuck near $2,480 as Abraxas Capital increases its spot holdings to hedge against a significant short position. The firm bought another 13,000 ETH worth approximately $32.39 million, according to Lookonchain, supporting its hedge against 141,180 ETH in short positions valued at around $353.27 million.
Abraxas Capital's strategy involves using spot purchases to offset potential losses if Ethereum rises and pressures leveraged short positions. This approach is not unique to the firm, as other trading desks have followed similar strategies.
Despite Ethereum's limited price movement, there are still risks for short traders due to short liquidations and market-neutral structures that can separate sharply during volatile periods. Additionally, funding rates can turn negative against crowded short positions, adding ongoing costs even when directional hedges remain intact.
