Abu Dhabi Becomes Top Destination for Crypto and Blockchain Companies
Abu Dhabi has become one of the most attractive destinations for crypto and blockchain companies due to its clear regulatory framework. The Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) has been issuing licenses to virtual asset activity since 2018, making it a pioneer in this field.
The emirate's Financial Services Permission requires firms to have a rulebook years before many other jurisdictions caught up. Only assets labeled 'Accepted Virtual Assets' can move through regulated products, while privacy tokens and algorithmic stablecoins are barred outright.
Major crypto platforms such as Binance, Galaxy Digital, and Circle have secured licenses in ADGM, covering trading, clearing, and brokerage. Regulated custody for Bitcoin and Ethereum is also being built with local partners, including BNY.
Tax breaks in the free zones of Abu Dhabi attract founders to set up shop. Qualifying income carries a 0% corporate tax rate, individuals generally owe no personal income or capital gains tax, and foreign founders can own their companies outright.
