Abu Dhabi Investor Anchors World Liberty Financial's Banking Venture with 49% Stake
Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al Nahyan and his co-investors hold a significant stake in World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance project affiliated with the Trump family. According to a Wall Street Journal report, they own 49% of WLTC Holdings, the holding company behind the planned banking venture. This investment is valued at $500 million, with the same investors also anchoring the banking arm and broader crypto business.
The U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted preliminary conditional approval for World Liberty to establish a national trust bank that would issue its USD1 stablecoin. The OCC approval remains conditional, and the bank must still meet conditions and pass a final examination before it can begin operations.
The disclosure fills in the capital structure behind World Liberty's push into federally chartered banking, deepening the overlap between U.S. presidential family ventures and foreign state-linked investors.
