Adam Back Labels BIP-110 Supporters 'Idiocracy', Signals No Chain Threat Without Broad Support
Bitcoin developer Adam Back has dismissed supporters of BIP-110 as 'idiocracy' on social media. The proposal, which aims to restrict non-financial data on the Bitcoin network, requires majority miner signaling by early August 2026.
Back stated that if there is no broad backing for the signal, it simply expires without any consequences. He argued that this approach aligns with an 'IETF-like consensus' that only considers valid technical objections.
The disagreement over BIP-110 has been ongoing since its introduction, with some developers framing it as part of a broader debate over Bitcoin's anti-spam policies. Major mining pools have largely stayed out of the effort so far, and exchanges and node operators are watching the deadline closely to avoid a potential chain split.
Back has previously downplayed related claims about a possible miner fork, emphasizing that such an event would not forcibly exclude miners from the network.
