Aerodrome Unleashes Tokenized Equities Trading on Coinbase Base
Aerodrome, the dominant decentralized exchange on Coinbase's Base blockchain, has expanded its trading capabilities to include tokenized versions of some of the world's most valuable stocks. The platform now offers onchain trading pools for Nvidia, Apple, Meta, and Alphabet, allowing traders to buy and sell these assets around the clock.
Roughly $103 million in volume flowed through the pools in the days following the August 24 launch, with daily trading volume peaking at approximately $27 million. Aerodrome's governance token AERO jumped about 11% to roughly $0.53 on the news.
The tokenized equities are built on Coinbase's B20 standard and represent a 1:1 claim on actual shares held in regulated custody through Alpaca under the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) regulatory umbrella. This means every token minted corresponds to a real share sitting in a compliant account somewhere.
The geographic restriction is a significant limitation, as US residents are excluded from trading these assets due to regulatory requirements.
