Agile Robots Focusing on Industry Applications Over Personal Humanoids
Zhaopeng Chen, founder and CEO of Agile Robots, envisions a future where every person on Earth has a personal robot. However, his company's current product offerings are far from that dream. Agile Robots focuses on building robots for industry, not homes, with its latest humanoid robot, the Agile ONE, being made in part by other Agile Robots products.
Chen's approach to making humanoids a reality is through 'two loops' of growth: one technical and one business-based. He believes that simply throwing money at a problem won't solve it; instead, physical AI requires real-world applications to drive economic value back into the growth flywheel.
The company has raised around $1.5 billion over seven years, with backing from SoftBank, but Chen isn't worried about competition from other humanoid robot companies, many of which have received significant funding in recent months.
Agile Robots' unique approach is to focus on building the entire factory ecosystem, including robotic arms, dextrous hands, autonomous mobile cargo robots, and software layers. This allows customers to integrate humanoids into their existing manufacturing systems, making it easier for companies to adopt automation solutions.
