Ahmedabad CFO Falls Victim to ₹79L Romance-Crypto Scam

Share

A 33-year-old chief financial officer (CFO) from Ahmedabad lost nearly ₹79 lakh to a sophisticated cryptocurrency investment scam after meeting a woman on a matrimonial platform.

The victim, who registered on the app in March 2025, came across a profile named 'Harshitha' in May. She built emotional trust over several weeks before introducing high-yield investment traps through fabricated profits and videos of a property in Berlin, Germany.

The scam unfolded as Harshitha recommended an investment website where the CFO transferred ₹78.9 lakh in multiple transactions, only to find that no money was released when he attempted to withdraw his funds. He then approached the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal before lodging an FIR with Ahmedabad cybercrime police.
