AI Agents Could Unlock New Phase for XRP
The XRP Ledger could be on the cusp of a new phase as AI agents begin to move from digital purchases to real-world spending. Chandler Fang, co-founder of t54 and former product lead at Ripple, believes that lasting adoption will depend on useful economic activity rather than transaction volume alone.
Currently, AI agents are capable of completing over a million transactions across the XRP Ledger without human intervention. However, the next step is to develop this activity into broader commerce, including applications that choose XRPL in the background.
Fang outlined three adoption phases for XRPL: frequent low-value payments for digital services, fewer higher-value transactions for consumer and business commerce, and thousands of internal actions before one settlement for embedded agents. He also emphasized the importance of interoperability, noting that transactions could increasingly begin inside card, bank, or institutional systems before linking to blockchain-based settlement.
The t54 co-founder predicted that long-term adoption will make XRPL a seamless part of various platforms and systems, with users not even realizing they are using the XRP Ledger. He also warned that transaction volume alone would provide an incomplete measure of agent adoption, and that more informative indicators would include repeat activity, merchant revenue, compliance with spending mandates, successful delivery, and effective dispute resolution.
