AI Agents Holding Tether Face Spending Control Challenges
Tether's Wallet Development Kit (WDK) has been designed to allow AI agents to hold and transact Tether (USDT), but this comes with a caveat. The WDK separates fund storage from transaction approval pathways, leaving it up to application developers to set spending limits for these agents.
This issue arises from the design of the WDK, which enables humans, machines, and AI agents to directly store and transact funds. Paolo Ardoino, Tether's CEO, has envisioned a world where 'humans, autonomous machines, and AI agents control their own finances.'
The WDK has been concretized into CLI and MCP toolkits, allowing terminals and agents to use the same local wallet. However, the approval process for write operations, including remittances, is not a common control mechanism across all execution pathways.
