AI Agents Take Center Stage in Financial Automation Revolution
A new trend in financial automation is emerging, driven by AI agents that can operate independently and complete tasks without human approval. At the center of this development is Coinbase's AgentKit, a toolkit for connecting AI agents to wallets and on-chain actions.
AgentKit enables developers to build autonomous AI applications that pay only when services are used, reducing reliance on subscriptions, API keys, and manual payment flows. The x402 payment standard allows AI agents to access APIs and make payments instantly, without managing API keys or recurring billing systems.
The toolkit also supports DeFi and yield management, allowing AI agents to interact with lending, liquidity, and trading protocols on Base. This enables them to move funds, compare lending markets, execute swaps, or manage yield strategies through instructions backed by programmable wallet permissions.
Base AgentKit gives AI systems their own programmable wallets, allowing them to receive income before spending it elsewhere. For example, a customer support agent could charge a small fee for document analysis and automatically purchase identity verification, retrieve external data, and pay another specialized AI agent for legal review.
