AI Chip Boom: DeepX Secures Funding at Four Times Previous Valuation
South Korean AI semiconductor startup DeepX has secured new funding at roughly four times its previous valuation, according to Bloomberg. The deal marks a broader trend that could reshape hardware economics across every compute-intensive industry, including mining and on-chain AI inference.
DeepX, founded in 2018 by CEO Lokwon Kim, specializes in edge AI chips designed for robotics, embedded devices, and on-device processing. Its latest funding round is an approximately $80.5 million Series C investment that set its post-money valuation at $529 million, more than eight times its previous valuation.
The company has been targeting mass production of its DX-V1 and DX-H1 chips for late 2024 and aims to develop next-generation on-device large language model solutions. There are also whispers of a potential IPO around April 2026, though nothing has been confirmed.
Crypto investors should pay close attention to the trend as AI chip demand surges, absorbing capital at a pace that could impact hardware economics across every compute-intensive industry. The semiconductor valuation arms race is underway, with Nvidia's market cap ballooning past $3 trillion on the back of AI demand.
