Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong dismissed concerns that cryptocurrencies should shift focus towards artificial intelligence. According to him, AI-driven agents will instead drive demand for crypto-based financial services.

Armstrong highlighted the potential of Coinbase's Base network, USDC stablecoin, and x402 protocol as infrastructure for autonomous agent payments. He stated that 'the trend of artificial intelligence takes nothing away from cryptocurrencies.'

The Base network has seen over 100 million transactions generated by AI agents in June, according to Chainalysis. The AI agents' payment accounts were typically new, held multiple assets, and had smaller balances compared to average Base users.
