AI-Driven Attacks Force Boltz to Halt Swap Service
Boltz, a non-custodial Bitcoin bridge, has suspended its swap service after facing repeated AI-assisted attacks.
The company, which has only a five-person team, said it could no longer withstand the pressure and decided to shut down the service on August 3. The decision was made after the team reported a 'steady rise in automated, AI-assisted probing' and several exploits, followed by a sharp acceleration in attacks during the days immediately before the shutdown.
The company stressed that its non-custodial design kept customer funds out of reach, but the losses from the attacks led it to suspend the service. A new group of veteran Bitcoiners has provided capital and engineering resources and agreed to take over Boltz, with work on identifying and fixing vulnerabilities already started.
