AI-Driven Crypto Scams Are Getting Too Real
Solana Foundation's CISO Michael Coates has sounded an alarm about the rising threat of AI-driven crypto scams. According to Coates, attackers are increasingly using artificial intelligence to make their scams more convincing and personalized.
The warning is not directed at a flaw in Solana's blockchain or smart contracts but rather at the way attackers target individuals through social engineering tactics such as phishing, impersonation, and voice deepfakes.
AI can produce realistic messages, voices, identities, and pressure tactics, making it easier for scammers to deceive users. In the crypto world, mistakes can become irreversible due to the speed of transactions and lack of chargebacks or password resets.
Coates emphasizes that security should not depend on every user being perfect every time but rather on systems being secure by default. He suggests that wallets can make risky approvals clearer, apps can reduce blind signing, and protocols can limit permissions.
