AI-Driven Financial Privacy Concerns Boost Demand for Zcash
Grayscale's Head of Research Zach Pandl believes artificial intelligence (AI) will increase demand for financial privacy features, particularly in Zcash. In a recent Stack commentary, Pandl noted that AI's ability to connect public blockchain activity with real-world identities could lead to a third wave of financial privacy concerns. This would follow previous waves triggered by the computerization of financial records in the 1970s and the expansion of the internet in the 1990s.
Pandl pointed out that while Zcash's shielded transactions conceal addresses and transaction amounts, AI could still potentially reveal this information. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) have also highlighted re-identification risks associated with AI-driven data analysis.
According to Grayscale, roughly 30% of ZEC's supply is now held in shielded pools, up from around 8% earlier. This increased adoption reflects growing interest in confidential blockchain transactions and the need for stronger financial privacy protections.
